The Goelet brothers, Robert and Ogden, were Manhattan's quietest real-estate dynasty, and in 1896 they hired the loudest firm in America to build them a warehouse. McKim, Mead and White delivered a six-story dry-goods store at 1 Worth Street; the Landmarks designation report for the Tribeca West Historic District records the commission to the year, along with the decades of groceries and bakers supplies that followed. Listing sites still shorthand the building as Stanford White's and date it to 1870; the record credits the firm, and the year was 1896.

The co-op that took the building over in 1986 kept it modest: a handful of residences, a shared roof deck, no elevator to the top. Residence 6R is the reward for the climb, six renovated rooms across the top floor with two bedrooms and two and a half baths. Across Worth Street the entire blockfront belongs to Ralph Walker's Western Union Building of 1930, so the outlook down the block is landmarked in both directions. The apartment went into contract on July 7, 2026, last asking $1,995,000 with $2,940 in monthly maintenance; Warner Lewis, Chris Crawford, and Ari Harkov of Brown Harris Stevens represent the seller.
