The house
A post and beam house of 1970 on just over two acres, with walls of glass on the deck side and exposed beams under a wood-plank ceiling. The road it sits on ends at Sojourner Truth Ulster Landing Park, which has a river beach, hiking trails, a playground and a boat launch on the Hudson.
The listing calls the house Westward House and says it was inspired by the California ranches of Cliff May. Four bedrooms and two full bathrooms are on the main level.
The rooms
The kitchen has butcher block counters, painted cabinets, a new sink and backsplash, a new refrigerator, two pantry closets and a yellow Smeg range. A carport just off the kitchen is where the groceries come in. The living room has refinished floors, replaced moldings and a built-in reading nook.
Below the main level are a four-person sauna, a room now used as a home gym, and a legal one-bedroom apartment with a full bathroom, its own kitchen, its own heat pump and a separate entrance through sliding glass doors or the garage.
The grounds
The upper deck looks over a lawn that slopes across the property, with planted gardens and privacy fencing. A former detached garage is now a garden shed. A micro-farm sits across the street.
The heating system and the apartment's heat pump date to 2023, and the house has central air and a new 50-gallon gas water heater. The village of Saugerties is minutes away, Kingston and Rhinebeck are each under 20 minutes, and the Rhinecliff Amtrak station is about 20 minutes off.
