The house belongs to one of the picturesque rows the architect Joseph M. Dunn broke ground on in June 1885 and finished the following year, a Queen Anne, Romanesque, and Gothic mix of red brick set against brownstone and earth-toned terra-cotta. The row lines Manhattan Avenue in the historic district named for it.

Inside, 137 kept what those houses were built with: the original grand staircase, carved marble mantels, louvered wooden shutters, and casement windows across four floors, with a deep garden behind. Four bedrooms, two and a half baths.
