The 70.64 acres offered here are not one lot. They are four, recorded in two separate town halls, and they close on the number exactly. Sharon's assessor carries the homesite as map 1, lot 48, 38.75 acres, and an adjoining 8.6 acre lot in the same ownership. Kent's assessor carries the other two: 21.73 acres holding a 520 square foot cabin, and a 1.56 acre piece classified as forest under the state's open space law. The Sharon ground came out of the Fraser land in 2001, the Kent ground out of the Clapp land in 2006 and 2007, and all four were brought under a single deed on December 3, 2009. The building on the Sharon parcel is recorded as new in 2010.

Read the neighbours and the reason for the view becomes plain. Two of the abutting Keeler Road parcels on the Kent side, 93 acres and 46 acres, belong to the State of Connecticut. The Kent land records date that conveyance to September 4, 1918, the year Alain White and the White Memorial Foundation gave the first 1,552 acres of what became Macedonia Brook, the thirteenth state park in Connecticut. It stands at 2,302 acres now. The blue blazed Macedonia Ridge Trail crosses Cobble Mountain a short way west, with the Catskills behind it. What the listing calls protected land has a name, an acreage and a date.
