The Story
Sylvan Rock is a 7,773-square-foot house of black cedar and floor-to-ceiling glass, drawn by S3 Architecture with Aston Martin Design, with a roofline meant to echo the edges of the rock ledge it stands on. The glass runs to the floor on the lower level, the primary suite is cantilevered out over the ledge, and the listing puts four bedrooms, five baths and two half baths inside.
S3 announced the project on September 30, 2020, as the first private residential estate designed with Aston Martin's design group. Christopher Dierig, a partner and registered architect at the Rhinebeck and New York firm, said the team lets the land speak first; the roofline follows the jagged ledge, and the entrance is cut into the rock on a lower level. The listing calls it the carmaker's first single family compound and records the house as new construction, built in 2026. The approach is a gated 2,000-foot driveway that runs between rock outcroppings and Revolutionary-era stone walls.
The house
The entrance hall is a stone-clad double-height room with a floating stair, a bronze plate that reads Sylvan Rock, Designed by Aston Martin, and a glass-walled room beside it for a car. The living room has a wood ceiling that follows the slope of the roof, a long gas fireplace set into a pale panel wall, and glass on two sides facing the ledge and the lawn pool. The kitchen is dark veneered cabinetry to the ceiling with Miele ovens, a stone island with a gas cooktop, and a lit glass cabinet for stemware. The dining table is white stone under a ring pendant, with a black slatted wall behind it and herringbone floors throughout.
Upstairs the primary suite has a wood ceiling, glass on three sides, a corner fireplace open to two sides and a deck, with a bath of fluted wood, dark stone and a freestanding tub. A wet bar with a stone counter sits at the end of a long closet. Elsewhere are an office behind pivoting glass doors with a wood-burning fireplace, a gym, a lounge with a wine wall in Aston Martin's cross-hatched lattice and a bar, and a movie theater. The listing adds a spa with a steam room, dry sauna, a glass-enclosed hot tub and two treatment rooms, and says the furnishings, custom designed by Aston Martin Design Group, are included.
The grounds
Outside there is a 50-foot gunite pool on a pale deck with an outdoor kitchen and dining area, a fenced lawn, a tennis or sports court, an architect-designed tree house and a spring-fed pond with walking trails. Three guest homes, 1,889 square feet in all, stand along a lit path away from the main house; the two photographed have decks, wood-framed glass walls and a pitched wood ceiling, and one has a wood stove. There is a four-car heated garage, and the listing puts Rhinebeck and Millbrook each under fifteen minutes away, the Taconic Parkway five minutes, and Manhattan under two hours.
