288 West Street PH

At the top of 288 West Street, the 1855 spice warehouse the neighborhood calls the Medium Lipstick Building, the penthouse is a study in old and new: the bones of a 19th-century industrial loft, exposed brick and heavy timber columns, set against a luminous modern renovation. It runs 4,150 square feet over two levels, with ceilings climbing from nine to twenty feet, multiple skylights, a wood-burning stove, and a living room that frames the Hudson through a row of oversized arched windows. A glass-enclosed sun room opens to a 975-square-foot landscaped terrace with a pergola and a sauna, the kind of downtown aerie that gave the building its reputation for views, from the Statue of Liberty to the Woolworth tower.

Connelly and her husband, the actor Paul Bettany, owned the penthouse before decamping for Brooklyn. This time the buyer was represented by Andrew Chung.
