The Story

A classic eyebrow colonial — the low half-story windows tucked tight under the eaves — dated circa 1850 by county records, set along the Roeliff Jansen Kill with deeded water rights. The kill is named for a Norwegian farmhand who landed in New Netherland in 1630; his widow’s sixty-two Manhattan acres passed into Trinity Church’s holdings and fueled two centuries of heirs’ litigation, finally settled in 1909.

The hamlet around it was originally called Ancram Lead Mines, downstream of the Livingston iron works that forged links for the chain stretched across the Hudson against British ships in the Revolution.

The House and Barn

The house was completely redone from the studs out — new plumbing, new electrical, radiant heat, central air — while the original details stayed: exposed beams, vaulted ceilings, and the proportions of the 1850s frame. The kitchen opens to dining around a wood stove, a den and living room flank the entry with french doors to a patio, and two of the three bedrooms upstairs are ensuite.

Across the drive, a three-story barn was finished with heat and central air: a wood shop on the lower level, two large high-ceilinged studios on the main floor, and a full bath with kitchenette above. A large tillable field sits across the road.
