The Story
The farmhouse sits on ten acres on Clinton Hollow Road in the town of Clinton, and the Frances J. Mark Memorial Park, with the town's swimming pond and a basketball court, is directly across the road. The county's record dates the house to 1840; the front door is a paneled one between pilasters under a transom, on a porch with fieldstone piers and a bluestone floor.
The last sale closed on December 28, 2021. The grounds are what the listing leads with: an apple orchard that still had fruit on it when the photographs were taken, old stone walls laid without mortar along the drive, and the lindens, sugar maples, tulip trees and yellow magnolias the listing names, with hydrangeas banked against the deck. Solar panels sit on the lower roof. The listing puts the Taconic five minutes away, Millbrook fifteen and Rhinebeck twenty.
The house and the barn
The living room and dining room run under bare joists on wide pine boards, with the chimney left as exposed brick in the dining room and a fireplace set in a wall of painted brick. The kitchen has a vaulted ceiling, a farmhouse sink under a window, counters and backsplash in veined white marble, a Viking range, a Fisher and Paykel refrigerator behind cabinet panels and a Gaggenau dishwasher, with French doors to the patio; the listing counts a library and an attached garage as well. The primary suite is on the first floor with its own door to the deck and the hot tub. Upstairs are four bedrooms under the roof pitch and a full bath, and one shower is laid in square glazed tile over a terracotta floor.
The barn carries a gambrel roof and a cupola. Inside is a two-bedroom apartment with a kitchen in white subway tile with white Samsung appliances, a triple window that looks across the lawn at the house, and its own deck over the orchard, with a built-in bar beneath the deck, a heated workshop with a concrete floor and a cider press, and an outdoor shower on the wall outside. The third building is the one the listing says was rebuilt from materials salvaged on the grounds: a sauna lined in tongue-and-groove with a long window into the orchard, a cedar cold plunge on a slate floor under walls of rusted sheet metal, and a dressing room.
