4 Linden Lane came to market under MLS 1052175 and has been listed eleven days, carried by Matthew Melinger of Brown Harris Stevens Hamptons. It is new construction: six bedrooms, six full baths and a half, behind a private gate on Linden Lane in Quiogue.

Quiogue is an unincorporated hamlet of the Town of Southampton, and its position is the whole point of it: held between the incorporated villages of Quogue and Westhampton Beach, with Quantuck Bay to the south and Aspatuck Creek and Quantuck Creek on the other sides. The name means Little Quogue. Quogue itself comes from Quaquanantuck, which meant a shaking marsh, cove or estuary.

The name first appears in the Southampton Town records in 1707, in a transfer of land from Joseph Foster to his son Daniel. For most of the time since, the economy here was farming and fishing. That changed in 1870, when the Reverend John Patton built the hamlet first summer cottage and his friends and colleagues built theirs along the lanes running down to the bay. The Turkey Bridge, where Main Street crosses Aspatuck Creek, went up in 1873. The Town has designated the hamlet a Hamlet Heritage Area.

You come in through an oversized swivel door, the kind rarely seen out here, into an entry gallery that runs more than twenty feet tall and is framed by a single enormous picture window. Past it the great room opens to more than forty feet with three exposures and ten foot ceilings, and a floating staircase is the thing it is built around.

The kitchen is windowed on two sides and equipped for a house this size: two sinks, two dishwashers, two ovens, an electric cooktop, an oversized refrigerator and a floor to ceiling wine refrigerator. A casual den sits past it and gives way to a junior primary suite with a juliette balcony over the back garden, its bath done with a floating double vanity, a walk-in shower with a french drain and fluted finishes.
