The file on 57 Accabonac Road is unusually complete. Robert Hefner, East Hampton's historic preservation consultant, rated the c. 1750 Conklin House the best example of an eighteenth-century saltbox in the Town outside the Incorporated Village, and in 2006 the Town Board paid $250,000 for an easement securing its interiors. What the town bought is what a buyer walks into: the parlour's blue-painted paneling, its color more than two hundred years old, original four-panel doors, a colonial bake oven in the old kitchen, four brick fireplaces, wavy glass in the sash. Three families held the house for nearly three centuries before it changed hands in 2018, and the restoration that followed, of the painted walls and the hearths, took the Village Preservation Society's 2021 award. Three bedrooms sit under hand-hewn beams, with wide original floorboards, two stairways, and a shingled barn with a studio loft, on 0.83 acres.
