The building went up in 1926 to designs by Sugarman and Berger, the firm that also drew One Fifth Avenue a few blocks east. Its principal, M. H. Sugarman, won the Gold Medal of the American Institute of Architects. The style is Tudor Gothic, which in 1926 Manhattan meant a prewar apartment house dressed in the vocabulary of an English college.
