The MLS says 1837, the county record says 1823
A frame house on a double lot on South Jamesport Avenue, one block up from the beach. The listing calls it a Captain's house and dates it to 1837. Suffolk County's public record puts it fourteen years earlier, at 1823, and nothing on the listing settles which is right. The MLS files the architectural style as Colonial, the section area as Front Street, and the township as Riverhead, which is the school district too. The parcel is not waterfront and carries no elevation certificate. It was last on the market in 2015, and this listing went up in August 2026.
A renovation and addition in 2007 brought the house current, and the MLS carries an effective year built to match it. The county record dates the work a year earlier, to 2006. Wide plank floors and original detail came through it, running across the shared rooms and the four bedrooms, and the MLS enters built-in features, original details and a formal dining room among the interior features.
Nine rooms, and an art studio on the third floor
The first floor holds the kitchen, the living room, a dining room, a den, a pantry and a full bath. Four bedrooms and two more baths sit above them. The third floor is entered as a bonus room and described as an art studio. Nine rooms in all, across a living area of 2,744 square feet, over a partial unfinished basement and under a partial attic.
The kitchen opens onto a side deck and the backyard. There is one fireplace, hardwood flooring, central air, and forced air heat running on oil. Water is public, waste goes to a cesspool, and parking is on the street. Outside there is a covered porch and a deck, and the fencing is partial. The lot runs 17,424 square feet, four tenths of an acre, a double parcel with room for a pool. The detached garage holds a workshop and a loft. The house sits in the Riverhead school district, which enters Aquebogue as its elementary school.
