Page 190 of East Hampton's Heritage carries the entry in full: J. D. Voorhees House, 80 Dunemere Lane, John Custis Lawrence, architect, Edward M. Gay, builder, 1913. The 1982 survey by Clay Lancaster, Robert A.M. Stern and Robert Hefner goes further, reading Lawrence's design as closely following the Hollister house on Lily Pond Lane, an Albro and Lindeberg commission whose low hipped roof and covered porches carried the character of an Italo-American villa. Dr. James Ditmars Voorhees, a New York obstetrician, commissioned it at the height of the summer colony and set it where the village meets its landscape, 1.73 acres of lawn running to Hook Pond and the fairways of the Maidstone Club. Inside are ten bedrooms, beamed ceilings, paneled walls and a glass-enclosed breakfast room facing the morning. A house that entered the record long before it entered the market.
