The Record
9421 Lloydcrest Drive is a two-bedroom, three-bath house on 0.28 acre of hillside in Beverly Crest, with a heated pool and spa beneath it and terraced gardens above. According to the listing, architect Richard Kearney designed it in 1958 for himself. The Los Angeles County assessor records 1959 as the year it was built, a year after the design date.
The AIA Historical Directory lists a Richard George Kearney as a California architect, an institute member from 1957 to 1963 and again from 1968. The listing credits the design to him, and Town & Country repeated the credit in March 2024, when the house was offered for rent.
The Lane
The address reads Beverly Hills and the zip code is 90210, but the assessor places the parcel in the city of Los Angeles. The map dealer Ruderman, which has catalogued a promotional broadside of the tract from about 1927, says the developer George E. Read began buying land here in 1923 and named the narrow lanes Lloydcrest, Readcrest and the rest, with development starting in 1926 on 178 lots of a quarter to three-quarters of an acre. This lot, at 0.28 acre and 152 by 79 feet, sits at the small end of that range.
The House
The living and dining rooms share one fireplace, and the living room has a wall of built-in bookshelves. The kitchen has a skylight, a center island and new appliances. The primary suite has a walk-in closet and a remodeled bath, and the second bedroom has its own newly renovated bath. A stair climbs from the pool deck through the gardens, which the listing credits to Campion Walker, to a lookout.
The listing names Truman Capote among the house's former residents, and Town & Country said the same in 2024.
