The house
This is a 1961 studio house in Tisvildeleje on North Zealand, 140 square metres (1,507 sq ft), with a large living and dining room that was the painter Mogens Valeur's original studio. It faces out over a hilly plot of 1,379 square metres laid out on staggered levels and ringed by forest.
From the entrance a small kitchen opens onto the studio room and a sitting room. Beyond are a smaller bedroom with its own bathroom, a second, smaller studio, two more bedrooms, another bathroom and a storage room. A carport is built into the house. The listing calls it a summer house with deep roots in the local cultural heritage.
The painter
Valeur worked here until 2000, and a considerable part of his work was made at this address. From the day it was built the house was a gathering point for the artist community around Tibirke Lunde.
The critic Elisabeth Fabritius, writing in 2006, described him as taken with the motifs of Tisvilde and as painting the landscape of the area in large, simple pictures. His language of form, she wrote, comes close to the abstract without leaving the recognisable, and colour always plays a decisive part. The passage is from her book on the painters of the Tisvilde area since the Golden Age.
The family
The listing says the family that owns it has loved the house for 85 years, and that it has been kept up continuously and stays true to the story of the place. The agent is Adam Schnack, who also wrote the listing text.
