Three Mile Harbor is East Hampton’s working harbor, the long protected inlet north of the village, with marinas and moorings down its east side and the sunset landing on the water almost every clear evening. The harbor mouth opens to Gardiners Bay, which is what keeps the water calm enough for paddling at dawn and boats at anchor all season.

This retreat sits directly on that water, and the design spends itself on the boundary: the living spaces open wide to the outdoors, the outdoor rooms are furnished like indoor ones, and the view does the work a formal garden would do anywhere else. Days end on the waterside of the house, facing the boats and the light.

It sleeps six. In summer it books by the week, with inquiries ahead of booking, which suits how the house is used: this is a place people settle into rather than pass through.
