Westbourne Park Road

The main room is lit from the roof. Skylights run down the centre of a vaulted ceiling crossed by white trusses, and the light falls onto dark timber floors, a stone fireplace and a marble island in a deep green kitchen. A gallery runs around much of the room at first-floor level, and its far end is an arched window of leaded and stained glass.

The room is almost 48 feet long. The listing says it was originally conceived as an artist's studio, and three blue canvases hang in panelled recesses on the fireplace wall, each with room around it. From the mezzanine study, with its bookshelves and a desk set beside the arched window, a spiral stair climbs to a roof terrace of about 29 by 14 feet, walled in old brick and planted with olive trees and palms, with the rooftops of Notting Hill beyond.

Below, the house opens at the rear onto a courtyard garden of about 34 feet, paved in stone and set with green mosaic tables, and a separate arched door on the street leads in through a brick passage. The house sits on Westbourne Park Road, moments from Westbourne Grove and Portobello Road.
